Moffatt Family of Russell, Ontario

Perhaps, the biggest surprise to me and I know it would have been to my mother and grandmother was that they came from a true Canadian family with roots
we can trace back, on my mother's side to early Canadian settlers which lead back to Jean Baptiste Morin from Normady, France born in the late 1500’s,
who was my 10th great grandfather.

My mother's grandmother Ellen Moffat was the daughter of John Moffat 1838-1923 and Emily Morin 1849-1921 and they had a large family consisting of twelve
children. It is through the family line of Emily Morin that we can go way back in time before Canada was a nation, for now we will deal with the Moffat family..

The Moffat family is quite complicated due to the size of the family and how many Moffat's there are.

We will concern ourselves here with the Moffat family of Russell, Ontario and the Ottawa region that leads to my mother.

Children

• Lucy Lucinda Walker 1901-1966 married on July 20, 1921 in Russell, Ontario George Frank Kritsch 1903-1976, they had no children. However, Lucy Lucinda
Walker did have a child Eleanor May Moffat 1920-?. Eleanor, was known as Aunt Eleanor by my mother, but in fact they were cousins! In the 1921 Canadian Census
Lucy was not living at home with her child, she was living elsewhere as a servant. Eleanor is found in the 1921 Canadian Census as a daughter of John Henry Walker
and Ellen Moffat. This was not uncommon for the day in order to protect the reputation of the family and the daughter. Parents often took on the role as parent of the
child to avoid public shame, unless the daughter was sent away and the child was adopted as was the case of my father's sister.

Gladys Emily Walker1903-1976

In 1921 my grandmother, Gladys Emily Walker, had left home and was found in the 1921 Canadian Census as a servant to the Whelan family.
