Walker Family of Newfoundland

The Walker family of Newfoundland begins with Thomas Walker born in 1753 in Newfoundland. I have been unable to trace where the family came from at this point in time, I guess I will have to make a trip to Newfoundland and search the archives there to get my answer.

  • Children
    • Lucy Lucinda Walker 1901-1966 married on July 20, 1921 in Russell, Ontario George Frank Kritsch 1903-1976, they had no children. However, Lucy Lucinda Walker did have a child Eleanor May Moffat 1920-?. Eleanor, was known as Aunt Eleanor by my mother, but in fact they were cousins! In the 1921 Canadian Census Lucy was not living at home with her child, she was living elsewhere as a servant. Eleanor is found in the 1921 Canadian Census as a daughter of John Henry Walker and Ellen Moffat. This was not uncommon for the day in order to protect the reputation of the family and the daughter. Parents often took on the role as parent of the child to avoid public shame, unless the daughter was sent away and the child was adopted as was the case of my father's sister. In 1921 my grandmother, Gladys Emily Walker, had left home and was found in the 1921 Canadian Census as a servant to the Whelan family.
