Alan Dawson Cranstoun

Alan, Dawson, CranstounAlan Dawson Cranstoun born October 1, 1922, second son of Langford Duer Cranstoun and Ada Mary Dawson, married Janetta Adams Brownlee born August 25, 1928 in October 1949.

Jan was actually a childhood friend of my father, not boyfriend/girlfriend friends, just friends before Alan met her. Jan was a bridesmaid at my mother’s wedding. Alan and Jan were at my wedding in 1975 and I could never, to this day, get over how much my father looked like him. (Just a small note here, Alan’s original birth certificate had the spelling as Alan, everyone used the spelling of Allan and I have used the original spelling.)

The reason my father knew Jan before Alan was because he was raised by his Auntie Fan who lived at 23 Hiltz Ave and the Brownlee's lived at 33 Hiltz Ave.

Alan Dawson Cranstoun (Past Master Huron-Bruce Lodge No. 611 and Very Worshipful Past Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Canada in The Province of Ontario) passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on August 29, 2010 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa.

Beloved husband of Jan. Cherished father and loving Pupa of 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. (We can fill this family in but children and their children are still living so we will stop here)

An interesting fact which I haven't pursued was on November 9, 1570, Sir William Cranstoun of Dodds, commissary of Lauder, found security to underlie the law for the slaughter of James Brownlee.
