Irene Evelina "Irenie" Cranstoun 1891-1954
Irenie was born January 11, 1891 at Fitches Creek, Antigua, the same place as my grandfather Langford Duer Cranstoun. Irene died in Basseterre, St. Kitts on July 16, 1954. She married Walter Frederick Malone of St. Kitts who ran the Malone family grocery and dry goods store on Princes St in Basseterre, St. Kitts, S. D. Malone Ltd, named after his father Solomon David Malone. Due to the decline in the sugar industry and competition, Walters company eventually went bankrupt. Walter developed mental problems as he aged, it was a form of dementia and he was so big and strong the only place that could handle him was the psychiatric ward at the asylum on Antigua. Walter loved Irenie very much, his granddaughter, Avril, told me when Irene died Walter would sit for hours thinking of her, because he missed her so much. Irenie was the backbone of the family when her father and brother passed away.
Irenie and Walter Malone had four children: 1. Muriel Aileen Malone (1916-1996) Born November 16, 1916 in Basseterre, Saint Kitts. She married her first cousin on November 25, 1936 Dudley Henry Jack Semper (1905-1982) who attended the Antigua Grammar School in 1920 and became a Supreme Court Judge in Jamaica. They had a daughter Margaret Helen Irenie Semper born September 30, 1957 in Jamaica and moved to England in 1960. 2. Mildred Irene Malone (1918-2002) Born on May 24, 1918 in Basseterre, St. Kitts and died on December 30, 2002 in Basseterre, St. Kitts unmarried. 3. Cecil Langford Malone (1920-2001) Born October 21, 1920 in Basseterre, St. Kitts he married Mabel Isabel Maisie Dickinson and they had two children: Stephen Malone (1949-?) unmarried and Avril Malone (1951-?) who married Robert Tyrell and they had a daughter. They live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Cecil died September 18, 2001 in Basseterre, St. Kitts. 4. Doreen S. Malone (1923-1984) Born May 27, 1923 in Basseterre, St. Kitts she married William McIntyre who was born on January 11, 1916 in Grenada. I can find no information other than a travel document dated June 25, 1956 which shows he arrived with his wife Doreen and his occupation was listed as a government official in Grenada, in Plymouth, England. Doreen died December 21, 1984.
